With acres of dunes, mature trees, small well protected greens, and water on several holes, this shotmaker’s design will challenge best. The course opened in 2006 and is currently ranked 8th best course in Virginia by Golfweek magazine.
 
Carpools will form at the Chesapake Bay Bridge parking lot just before the toll.  I'll have my truck to carry clubs if anyone needs help. I can also take 4 passengers. I'll be there at 10:30 and leave at 10:45.  It's about an hour drive from the tunnel to the course.  Modified shotgun start, don't be late!!!
 
If your guest has already completed a EWGA Chapter Event Release and Indemnification Agreement they are good for the entire 2011 season.  If you are bringing a 1st time guest then they will need to complete the agreement prior to teeing off.

Portsmouth's challenging Bide-A-Wee Golf Course was a vision conceived by PGA Professional and Virginia Sports Hall of Famer, Chandler Harper in the early 1950's.

After playing in the Ryder Cup matches of 1955, Mr. Harper retired from competitive golf and hired Fred Findlay to build the new Portsmouth course.

The name originated from a conversation Mr. Harper and Findlay had about potential names for the new course. Mr. Findlay said "when I was a boy in Scotland, I started to run away from home. My Mother advised "you had better bide-a-wee." To a Scot, that meant "stay a little longer or linger awhile."
Chandler Harper was also the first golf pro at Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club where we played in April. 
 
This will be the 2nd TPT event of the season.  TPT players will be flighted and play by USGA rules.  You must have your handicap established and posted prior to the close of ticket sales for this event to count towards the TPT competition.
 
This is a female friendly course with a couple drivable par 4's for those long hitters!

Ocean View was originally built in 1929 by World War I veterans.  Back then, a round of golf was only 60 cents!  In the year 2000, Ocean View went through a $2.8 million redesign and renovation, including rebuilding all eighteen greens to U.S.G.A specifications.

A favorite to Ford’s Colony members, this continuous 18 consists of long and challenging par 3’s, fair and forthright par 4’s and intimidating par 5’s.   Blue Heron provides some room for error off of the tee, but makes up for it by having 17 out of 18 greens guarded by bunkers.  Many of these holes are carved out of dense wetlands, which provide not only a unique golf course setting, but a home to many different species of birds, fish and other aquatic life.

 
This event will be an individual stroke play for golfers NOT competing in the chapter championship but still would like to come and play the course and have a bird's eye view of the chapter championship.  You are encouraged to attend the rules meeting which will talk about local course rules and drop zones that may apply.  There will also be a box lunch provided for each player.  After the golf event come join in for the awards presentation, hor doervs and there will also be a cash bar.  As the awards are presented we will all learn who will be advancing to the regional semi-finals and representing our chapter at the Grand Dunes in Myrtle Beach.

It's time for open stroke play at Red Wing Lake.  This course hosted the Wednesday evening 9 hole Fairway Friends and the 18 hole Mentor Mentee golf outing.  Now it's time to open the course up to the rest of the chapter.  This is course offers plenty of wildlife.  It's not unusual to see the eagles up in their nest or sitting on a branch eating a fish from one of the lakes.  Sign up for this one!  It's a relaxing round of golf but pay attention to #18!

Riverfront is an old-style course that winds its way through riverfront acreage, tidal marshes, huge oaks and pines and vast rolling farmland. It offers a truly amazing setting for a great round of golf.
Riverfront was voted 4-1/2 stars by Golf Digest and included in "40 best Daily fee courses" by 'Golf and Travel Magazine'.  This course is a "must play" in the Hampton Roads area for golfers of all abilities
Riverfront was home of the EWGA Hampton Roads Chapter Championship in 2010. It will also host the VSGA Two-Best-Balls of Four.

Here we are, half way through the TPT season and we've finally made it to August.  We're on the later half of the season but there's still plenty of golf to be played. 
 
Scenery plus water plus golf - it doesn't get any better than that for playing excitement and that's what you'll find at Nansemond River Golf Club in Suffolk, Va., the region's premier waterfront golf course.
Situated on the Nansemond River, the club offers more than three miles of riverfront scenery, including a natural island green on the 17th hole that reminds many players of that famous island hole at the TPC Sawgrass. But that's just the beginning, there are 14 holes in all built along the river at our club. Plenty of water adventures for you and the rest of your foursome.

A favorite with locals, The Woodlands offers an excellent test of shot making, can always be counted on to be in great condition and provides fun for everyone of all ages.

The Woodlands is an 18 hole, par 69, 5400 yard golf course with bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways and rough. Water comes into play on 11 of the holes and the 52 sand bunkers create surprising challenges on this sometimes underestimated golf course.

Only minutes from the attractions of downtown Hampton, The Woodlands, host to the Hampton Amateur and the Peninsula Women's Championship Tournaments, is listed in Golf Magazine as one of "the First 100 Clubs in America", having been originally built in 1916.

Now that vacations are over and the kids are back in school lets try this again! The monthly EWGA social event.  Dinner and drinks at Roger Brown's Restaurant and Sports Bar in Portsmouth. Each individual pays for their own food and drinks that night. Bring a friend or family member who may be interested in the EWGA!
