Do you wish you had an easy hands-on approach to teaching life skills such as money & finance, wants & needs, goods & services, and other related standards? You, along with other teachers devoted to teaching beyond the textbook, will be inspired by the unique Classroom Mini-Economy. Imagine all students learning basic money and other economic skills by having “paid” jobs and running banks, insurance companies, stores, or other businesses. You will truly be inspired and motivated by the easy-to-implement techniques and activities that create a classroom community based on real economic and life skills without adding more units to your already busy school day.

The Classroom Mini-Economy:

  • Can be implemented at various grade levels from Kindergarten to Middle School
  • Simulates real-world skills even the youngest learners can grasp
  • Involves your students in real decision-making and creative thinking
  • Offers motivation to students academically and behaviorally
  • Improves your classroom management without adding extra units to your already busy teaching load
  • Integrates social studies, math, language arts, technology, and fine arts throughout the day to meet the required economic standards

During the workshop you will:

  • lnvestigate a model system used in a second-grade classroom for the past nine years
  • Learn strategies for connecting the Classroom Mini-Economy to Wisconsin Model Academic Standards
  • Have time to reflect on how this program can work in your classroom and time to devise your own initial plan
  • Brainstorm and work with others, as well as seek individual advice from the facilitators. Come with questions, leave with answers and a plan!

Each workshop participant will receive:

  • One day of training with lunch, textbooks, and all materials provided
  • Comprehensive 170-page “how to” curriculum, The Classroom Mini-Economy
  • Follow-up and consultation as needed
  • Complete set of 22, kid-friendly KidsEcon Posters

Since 1963, EconomicsWisconsin has helped elementary and secondary teachers gain competence and confidence teaching about our free market economic system.

Nearly 4,000 teachers annually participate in the programs of EconomicsWisconsin. Our programs help prepare students to:

Understand how our economy works
Make informed choices as employees, consumers and citizens
Become knowledgeable and productive members of the workforce
Maintain the institutions of democracy and a market economy
Make Wisconsin's businesses more competitive in today's global economy

When Wisconsin's students are armed with this knowledge and understanding, they are well on their way to becoming tomorrow's leaders. And that benefits all of us.
