Does a Business Analyst need to possess more business knowledge or analytical prowess? What is the right blend of both? There’s a continuing debate about how much business domain expertise a Business Analyst needs to have going into a new industry, job, or project. If a Business Analyst has strong business expertise, then can they learn to be analytical? If a Business Analyst has strong analytical ability, then can they acquire the business acumen? This presentation will discuss the pros and cons of emphasizing one skill set over another. Business Analysts and hiring managers will have preferences. We’ll open up the discussion to hear about the audience’s preference and industry trends.

Speaker Biography: Sue is currently a Lead Business Systems Analyst/Systems Tester at The Vanguard Group in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.Sue is a multi-faceted professional with experience in project planning, process improvement, business systems analysis, software quality assurance, and data design. She has worked in the financial services, insurance, and manufacturing industries. She is an expert in Requirements planning and execution, she is a leader of enterprise-level Business Architecture efforts, and she is an author and trainer of in-house Business Analysis courses. Sue is a Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) and a champion of the BA role. Sue regularly presents at Business Analysis conferences. She served as past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the IIBA.
