Welcome to Okpik!
Does your troop avoid camping when it gets cold? Are you miserable when the mercury plummets and the snow flies? Why miss out on all of the fun of a 12 month Scouting program while you sit there cold and shivering? Take Okpik and begin to enjoy the best season for camping.
Okpik has two aims. One is to train the individual to be able to enjoy the outdoors and a camping experience in cold weather (and let’s face it, its not always warm and dry when Scouters camp). The second aim is to train the trainer. We want to train Scout leaders and experienced Scouts in the unique skills of cold weather camping so that they can take the knowledge and skills they have learned on the course and bring them back to their units. We want to see all Scout units extend their camping season to all 12 months of the year.
Becoming Okpik trained is more than just taking a course, graduation carries with it the responsibility of taking the training back to your unit. Once you graduate you can wear your cubes with pride and join the fellowship of those who have accepted the challenge of Okpik. You will be a leader, showing other Scouts the way to having fun through winter camping.
Okpik is not a winter survival course, it is a course for thriving in winter and having fun in the cold.
