Help Your Children Enjoy a Fun Summer While Learning New Skills

OAKDALE, NY – The Dowling Institute is pleased to present a variety of new courses as part of the Children’s Enrichment Summer program. Courses will be held on Dowling College’s Rudolph Campus in Oakdale.
Participants will need notebooks and pencils and students should dress comfortably. Note: All students must have completed Kindergarten. Children’s enrichment classes meet August 4 through August 15, 2008. Listed below is a sampling of courses and you can visit the website for a complete listing for students ranging from grades 1-12.

EXPLORE THE WONDERS OF SCIENCE
This course will allow younger students to participate in the exploration of science through hands-on activities. Students will engage in fun projects as they discover and learn. Created projects will be brought home. NOTE: There is an additional cost of $10.00 per student. This fee is to be paid to the instructor on the first day of class.
Grades 1 – 2 Monday - Friday: 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. $120

GBA VIDEO GAME DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT: LEVEL I
This introductory course provides the opportunity to create at least two individualized full–working video games, while developing, using and strengthening math, logic, communication, concentration and critical thinking, problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Learn to create art and animation for games and incorporate sounds, music, video and other multimedia elements into games. NOTE: Students must register by July 3rd in order to guarantee enrollment.
Grades 4 – 6 Monday - Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. $390

GUITAR
This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of guitar playing. Musical principles such as melody, harmony and rhythm are covered. Emphasis will be on studying current songs and styles. NOTE: Students are required to bring their instruments with them. Grades 4 – 8 Monday - Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. $120

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER GRAPHICS
This course will cover the basics of the 3-D computer graphics techniques used in computer animation. Students will animate 3-D virtual characters and develop interactive virtual worlds in the computer. All classes will be held in one of Dowling’s computer laboratories and will feature extensive, hands-on activities. Prior computer programming experience not required. A USB Flash drive is required.
Grades 9 – 12 Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. $120
