The West Coast Invitation Only "Transmission Seminar" will focus heavily on empty hand / weapons relationship. The schedule, to be announced soon, will focus on weapons taking (tanto, jo, and bokken), and elements of Saotome Sensei's weapons work that are not generally taught such as kumi iai forms (paired sword drawing) and two attacker sword forms. This will necessarily neccessitate the review of component elements as required.

 

The empty hand classes will focus on sword / empty hand relationship with work on the origins of our essential waza as sword retention techniques. Also, there will be work on atemi waza and the use of atemi to initiate and set up waza rather than waiting for an attack. Much of the atemi work is unique to Saotome Sensei's Aikido and I think that it is important that it be more widely taught to keep it from disappearing.

 

As was the case with earlier "Transmission" events, there will be time each day devoted to specific issues suggested by the attendees. I want to make sure that the attendees get assistance with any area of their Aikido they are finding problematical.

 

There will be four full days of training with over seven hours each day. Please bring fukuro shinai, bokken, jo and tanto.
