You May Pay at the Door Tonight Dr. Daryl Gross Athletic Director, Syracuse University An update on New York's College Team While everyone is familiar with SU’s basketball and lacrosse greatness, hear how Athletic Director Dr. Daryl Gross is extending this success and greatness to all Orange sports teams. SU is currently ranked 16th nationally in the Learfield Cup, a ranking of over overall athletic program success. Since Gross’ hiring in 2004 the women’s basketball team reached its first ever Final Four, as did the field hockey team. Multiple teams reached their highest ever national ranking - Men’s Rowing (5th), Men’s Cross Country (11th) and Women’s Cross Country (10th). Under new coach Doug Marrone, the football team reached, and won, its first bowl game since 2004. New facilities (the Carmelo Center, new fields and weight rooms) and a new women’s team – ice hockey - are other examples of Gross’ drive for SU success. Off the field the Athletic Department has raised over $100 million since 2007 and last year 13 SU teams had grades and graduation rates above the national average.
Dr. Gross will discuss - The outlook for spring and fall Orange teams
- The story behind “New York’s College Team”
- Trends and issues surrounding the Big East
- Conference re-alignment and what it means for the Orange
