Energy and Water Conservation

Students will learn what it means to "go Green" from the ground up in new construction.
There will be a discussion of different designations for energy efficient homes, EarthCraft and LEED.
How to select Energy Star rated appliances and equipment. How to utilize the Energy Star website for
support in conserving energy. How to perform home maintenance in order to eliminate air leaks and
improve attic insulation. We identify the conservation "must do’s" for your home. We list recommended
upgrades in equipment for the home. We discuss how to find the resources thru tax credits and rebates
to get the work done. We discuss the new 2012 CFL lighting mandates and the future of lighting (the LED).
We close with general discussion on water conservation, dual-flush toilets and low flow fixtures. Students
should leave with a to-do list of important action items.
