Event Details
The indigenous Yoruba spiritual tradition is a major African religion. The religion revolves around the appeasement of spiritual forces called orisa, considered intermediaries of God. Explore the dynamic character and energy of nine of the most popular orisa in the Yoruba pantheon. These include Obatala, Eshu, Oshun, Orunmila, Shango, Ogun, Yemoja, Obaluaye and Osanyin. In this workshop we will take a closer look into myths, legends, character and power of these forces. Some other orisa will be briefly discussed as well.
In this workshop you will learn about:
• Historical and mythological stories.
• Foods and offerings of the orisha.
• Natural habitat of the orisha.
• Characteristic of the orisha.
• Healing power of the orisha.
• Contrasts between concept of orisa in Africa and Diaspora.

Baba Faseye Sangobukunmi is a traditional Yoruba priest of Ifa and Sango, documentary filmmaker, certified Holistic Health Coach, diviner and third-degree Reiki Master. He was initiated into the Sango priesthood in Nigeria by Sangodele Ibuowo, the Elegun Sango of Koso, Oyo State, Nigeria. He was also initiated into the Ifa priesthood by Baba Fakayode Faniyi and members of the Idin Ileke Ifa Temple in Osogbo. Since his initiation, he has been studying Ifa and Yoruba spirituality under the tutelage of his esteemed godfather and spiritual mentor, Baba Fakayode Faniyi, the Agbongbon Awo of Osogbo.Baba Faseye also completed a 2 year Indigenious African Spiritual Technology apprenticeship under the direction of Malidoma Some, African Shaman. He holds a Master's Degree in Holistic Nutrition Education and heads the Ile Ori L'Agba spiritual community and learning center.
