Date: Thursday 4 April 2013 Times: Doors & bar 6.30pm, talk start 7pm Venue: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ Tickets: £3 Liam Young is an independent futurist, critic, architect, designer and curator from London. His projects deploy fictional near-future scenarios as critical instruments for instigating debate about the social, architectural and political consequences of emerging biological and technological futures. Blueprint magazine have named him as one of 25 people who will change architecture and design. Liam curates international events and exhibitions including the conference series, Thrilling Wonder Stories: Speculative Futures for an Alternate Present in London, and the exhibition, Under Tomorrow’s Skies in the Netherlands. He is one of the curators of the 2013 Lisbon Architecture Triennale. Liam’s Monthly Talk will act as both the final event in Lighthouse 2012-13 Uncharted Territories programme, and the first event in our new 2013-14 programme cycle, which we will be announcing in April. He will give a performative lecture which will draw together Unknown Fields Division’s searches for ‘weak signals’ of the future playing out in the present tense, and Tomorrows Thoughts Today’s speculative design work which shapes those conditions into plausible scenarios.
