PENSACOLA, FL – ITGulfCoast, an Information Technology Association for the Gulf Coast, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 23rd 2008 at PJC Downtown. Brett Hoff, owner of Open Source Enterprises, will discuss open source-based security solutions.
Free and Open Source Security Solutions – What You Should Know
In recent years, the Information Technology world has witnessed the rapid growth of free and open source software (FOSS). FOSS solutions are built by worldwide communities of professional developers and are often available free of charge. FOSS products have been evolving and improving very quickly in the past few years, and now represent some of the most stable, technically advanced, easy to use, secure, and feature-rich solutions available to the IT industry.
Our speaker, Brett Hoff of Open Source Technologies, will discuss security tools from the open source community, emphasizing the key decision points and issues facing IT professionals tasked with securing and maintaining critical computing resources. Topics covered will include:

- Common threats to IT security, and common remedies
- Pitfalls and gotchas
- Key technologies and products
- What to look for in security products and services

Meeting Details
This meeting will be held at the PJC Downtown Center http://www.pjc.edu/includes/maps/PJCMapDTC-s.pdf. The meeting starts at 11:30am and ends at 1:00pm. The cost for lunch is $12 per person. Cold box lunches will be provided. The fee to attend without lunch is $5 per person.
